Civil War letters (1861-1864) sent to his brother John E. Van Fleet of Clover Hill, Hillsborough Township, Somerset County, New Jersey, including two letters (1861 & 1862) written by a brother (James O.) who served in the 9th New Jersey Infantry.
Accompanying the letters are a photograph of Van Fleet and several documents (1889-1891) relating to a pension based on Van Fleet's service and received by his mother (Ann).
